28: Helmet

Three pilots in training (Patrick Skittles, Jon & TJ) drove up from Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX, one Saturday and used the laser cutter to produce this work of art. It is made from two layers of MDF, and a third layer of copper. The copper goggles were first heated with a propane torch, then covered with scavenged film from old plastic scraps, then laser cut to remove certain parts of the film, then acid etched. If you squint you will see that the spars of the bi-plane spell the words "RIGHT LIGHT". Size-wise, it is about 17" diameter. They call it a "patch". It is a tradition amongst military folk to make and present "patches". It will no doubt hang on the wall in the squad room at Laughlin.
