169: Xavier Dec 2018
Xavier is a little person with stumps for arms. Like many 18 year olds, he has a permit to learn to drive a car.
Little people can buy extensions for their pedals. But for Xavier, the steering wheel is a huge problem.
He came to 10BitWorks saying, "I need holes. Nobody makes steering wheel extenders with holes." So I taught him to use the CAD
program OnShape and he/we designed the two piece assembly shown. He can use a track pad; he can type; he did the CAD work.
A little laser time, a little duct tape, and voila, one proof-of-concept custom steering wheel, with holes.
Smelle does not charge for his services, but afterward he found a very special 5 dollar bill in the 10BW donation box.
Look close. It says, "Given to Xavier by the Spurs Coyote."
The car, btw, is mine, a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. It has the same 14" diameter steering wheel as Xavier's mother's car.
