192: Vink Aug 2021

Vink is Dutch for finch. This is a painting of a common European finch, not a goldfinch. Nonetheless, a Hollywood movie called "The Goldfinch" features this painting in a flashback scene at a musuem. The boy's mother is killed by an explosion at the very moment that they are looking at the painting. The movie was released to theaters in 2020; duh, no one went because of the pandemic. It is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Good flick!

The artist, Carel Pietersz was a protege of Rembrandt and a member of the Delft School. He was killed when a gunpowder explosion demolished their studio. He signed his paintings with a nickname, Fabritius, which means carpenter, and the year 1654.

George, I promise, my next painting will be an original.
