The odd shapes in the base beyond the dog's tail are seashells imbedded in the limestone.

This was a student project. I took a class in stone sculpting at Inspire Community Fine Art Center
My instructor was Charles Ingram ,with able substitute help from Susan Montagna and moral support from Cody Vance.
