Photo Cube

Click on the above sample web pages.
The first one is a sample. The second one is made for downloading. Here's how:

(Suggestion: Print this sheet)

After opening the second link
View source
Highlight all text
Copy

Open SimpleText (Mac) or Notepad (Windows)
(any primitive text editor will do, but don't use Word, it tries to help, wrongly)

Paste
SaveAs (give the file a name and change the extension (instead of .txt) to be .html)
Create a new folder (Call it something, say, Cube)
Put the newly named .html file into the folder
Put 6 jpeg's into the folder also. This works best if the jpep's have been cropped to be square. I prefer 450 pixels x 450 pixels.

Rename the jpeg's to be
image1.jpg
image2.jpg
image3.jpg
image4.jpg
image5.jpg
image6.jpg
(all lower case, spelling is critical, they've got to be jpeg's not bmp's)

Remain on-line (or go on-line) because the cube layout is constructed, in part, from photos that are stored on Don Smeller's web site, and in part, from your files.

Some computers allow you to now click on the .html file, and it will open. Other computers require you to go through the following steps:

Open your browser (Internet Explorer for instance)
File/open/ (browse to your new folder on your computer, pick the new .html file)
Voila, a flat pattern for a cube.

Next print it. The size of the cube can be controlled somewhat by the reduce/enlarge feature of your printer. For instance a setting of 107% is needed to tweak it up to a 1.5" cube on some printers. 100% gets the same result on other printers.

Cut (Horizontal slices need to come into the central panel to free up the side panels)

Fold (Instructions are printed on the flat pattern) (The instructions, by the way, will end up on the inside.)
