Anders Zorn, a Swede, painted this in 1888. It's at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
I am learning about edges. Zorn never paints a hard edge. He pushes color across every boundary, sort of like a jpeg. Zorn also painted fast. I tried to emulate that by painting this in one 3 hour session. Add another session for touch-ups.
I liked the gestures in this scene. They're universal. We've all been there, done that. The Kid is going to get wet, there's no doubt in anyone's mind but his. The Mom is firm but gentle.
